Bill Ward (1919-1998) started his artistic career very early. At 17 he was already good enough to illustrate 1930s “beer jackets”. Only a couple years after he worked as co-illustrator for pulp magazines and in 1944 he started his the most famous series “Torchy” drawn especially for US Army guys on the battlefield. “Torchy” was so popular that it went on until early 1950s and was reprinted later on several ocassions. As the time went by Bill Ward’s works were getting more explicit so it’s possibly to find clearly pornographic works in his gigantic work portfolio. Most of his art is softcore though. His artistic style goes from beautiful Good Girl Art to humorous cartoons. |
